BWA and the Pocono Sewer Project
The Brodhead Watershed Association works to protect water resources for a variety of uses and to educate the public on issues regarding watershed resources. Our methods include monitoring, engagement in discussions and actions with watershed stakeholders, and public educational outreach. BWA has argued that best practices in water resource management should be applied to our watershed, specifically that after water is used, it should be treated and returned to the watershed in such a way that natural processes can further cleanse the water and maintain the resource for continued use for generations to come. BWA maintained this position throughout the discussions that resulted in the agreement that allowed the extension of a large sewer line north along PA 611 to Swiftwater and simultaneously the extensive modernization and expansion of Stroudsburg township’s water treatment facility. Our position has not changed. We will continue to advocate for best practices in water management to ensure that residents and businesses, as well as fish and wildlife continue to be provided with clean water resources.
