Hike at Swiftwater Forest Preserve
Swiftwater Forest Preserve is a natural neighborhood sanctuary that provides outdoor recreation for individuals and families throughout Paradise Township and the greater Monroe County. It offers opportunities for hiking, birding, photography, cross-country skiing, and picnicking. An old woods road leads uphill through a mixed hardwood forest, passing the chimney and fireplace of a rustic, backwoods cabin that was dismantled and moved a decade ago. From there, the trail ascends and descends gradually for about 2.5 miles within the 98 acres of woodland owned by Paradise Township, purchased in 2015 with open space funds.
The Swiftwater Forest Preserve is an essential buffer that protects the water of its two namesakes, Forest Hills Run to the north and Swiftwater Creek to the south. Both streams join Paradise Creek a short distance downstream, to help form the beautiful Paradise Valley and feed Brodhead Creek and drinking water supplies downstream.
Join us as we are led by an Environmental Educator from Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center on this moderate, family-friendly, 90-minute outing of about 2.5 miles. This is our last hike of the 2024 Get Outdoors Poconos season!
Directions and details will be sent in an email to all registrants before the hike.
