Exploring for Mushrooms with Dave Wasilewski
While hiking along any of the trails through our Pennsylvania woodlands, one is apt to notice the many colorful and interesting mushrooms dotting the forest floor, hanging like shelves from trees, or nestled in cool damp moss. NEPA is home to an amazing array of wild fungi. Have you ever wondered… are some of them good to eat? Are there poisonous ones? What are the ecological roles of these seemingly ephemeral entities? For this joint event hosted by BWA and PHLT, you are invited to accompany amateur mycologist Dave Wasilewski on a hike through the Rail Gap Nature Preserve on the morning of Friday, October 4, 2024.
While stopping to examine mushrooms found along the trail, Dave will gladly answer any of your questions and hopefully encourage you to learn more about the fascinating Kingdom of Fungi.
Participants will meet at Rail Gap Nature Preserve at 11:00 A.M. and will walk for approximately 90 minutes.
This event has limited space and prior registration is required. The event is free, but a $10 suggested donation would be greatly appreciated!
