Gardening for Wildlife: How People Benefit When Nature Thrives
In 1972, U.S. Forest Service scientists discovered that the same principles used to manage large-scale wildlife habitats—providing food, water, cover, and places to raise young—also apply to smaller landscapes – like your own backyard! Creating a habitat for wildlife starts with plants, which form the foundation of food webs, provide essential shelter, and support water management.
Before our native plant sale this year, join BWA and Penn State Master Gardener Amy Girardi on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at 6:00 P.M. at the Brodhead Creek Heritage Center for Gardening for Wildlife: How People Benefit When Nature Thrives – for an educational presentation that offers guests the opportunity to learn the “why” behind planting native – not only for the benefit of our wild counterparts, but for the benefit of us humans, too!
This event is being held with financial assistance from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Recreation and Conservation through a grant funded by the Environmental Stewardship Fund.
