Hike at Mt. Wismer Preserve
Mount Wismer Preserve offers a panoramic view of Barrett Township from the escarpment (a long, steep slope) of the Pocono Plateau. This Preserve is 90+ acres abutting the 170-acre Gravel Family Preserve and includes hardwood forest, open fields, and a variety of wildflowers. The land is permanently set aside for public enjoyment, while also protecting wetlands, springs and creeks that help keep drinking water pure. From the edge of the plateau, you can see the Delaware Water Gap. Early morning mist often delineates the creeks that flow into the Brodhead. In the fall, the view of changing colors is spectacular. Spring-fed pools are some of the many wetlands kept pure by this preserve, including the headwaters of the Middle Branch of Brodhead Creek.
The Mount Wismer trails do include some steeper hiking. Parts may be wet. Wear sturdy boots or shoes. And don’t forget some water and a light snack!
All registrants will receive an email reminder with directions to our meeting place prior to the hike!
