The Brodhead Watershed Association Appoints New Board Members & Elects Officers

At the board meeting held on November 2nd at the MCCD offices BWA Board of Directors unanimously elected ESU Associate Professor, Pat Kennedy to the post of President, replacing Don Baylor, who has retired from this position but will continue on as an executive Board member.

"With Pat Kennedy's legal and communications background, along with her terrific energy and personality, The Brodhead Watershed Association is in good hands," said Baylor. "We have already benefited greatly from her insight and organizational skills and are fortunate to have her as president."

Kennedy, 62, is an associate professor in the Communications Studies department at East Stroudsburg University. Before joining the ESU faculty, Kennedy spent nearly twenty years as a lawyer, principally as a municipal attorney for the city of Ithaca, New York. Kennedy is especially proud of her successful defense of a city planning board decision to place strong environmental and aesthetic conditions on a proposed Wal-Mart store in a national park "viewshed," and her work on inter-municipal water and sewer agreements.

Amy Baird, Eric Baird, Tom Harley, Tim Herd and Amy Seidel where unanimously elected to the Board of Directors at the BWA 20th Anniversary Dinner and membership meeting. Additionally, Rob Sedwin, local businessperson was elected Vice President, filling the slot left vacant by Pat Kennedy. Existing executives, Edie Stevens, Vice President, Marlo Merhige, Treasurer and Anne Fetherman, Secretary will continue in there current capacities. The Board of Directors and Officers would like to thank the retiring board members, Joe Bedrick, Michele Farley, Rick Porvaznik and John Woodling for their efforts and contributions during their tenure.

The Brodhead Watershed Association is a non-profit environmental organization formed in 1989. BWA is dedicated to protecting and preserving water resources and the environment of the Brodhead watershed and the water quality of the Brodhead, Cherry, Marshalls, McMichael, Paradise and Pocono creeks and their tributaries. In addition, the BWA assists municipalities, residents, businesses and groups with protecting natural resources through education, workshops, seminars, public programs and stream monitoring.
