Jeri Jewett-Smith Memorial Fund

March 15, 2013

The Brodhead Watershed Association invites applications for the third year of its Dr. Jerilyn (Jeri) Jewett-Smith “stewardship” research grant program.

The Jeri-Jewett-Smith Memorial Fund (the Jeri Fund) was established to recognize the significant contributions that Dr. Jerilyn Jewett-Smith - Jeri, made to the Brodhead Watershed Association.

Jeri was BWA's president from 2008-2009, and an active Board member from 2004 to 2010.  She brought enthusiasm, science and supreme dedication to the BWA.     Read more about Jeri's life here.

The Jeri Fund was established to provide small "stewardship" grants for student research projects.  The first recipient of a grant was Karen Trebitz.

In 2012, BWA established a competitive process for awarding grants, with applications due  April 15.  Two student projects were funded:

DEVELOPMENT AND DESIGN OF A RAIN GARDEN WITH NATIVE PLANTS FOR  EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES  -    $500

Tahlasia G. Williams and Pamela R. Jacques, sponsored by Dr. Beatriz Villar from Northampton Community College.

STREAM BIOMONITORING BY MACROINVERTEBRATE SAMPLING - $100

Matthew Bickart, sponsored by Dr. Robert Cook, from Keystone College

The application instructions for 2013 grants are now available.  See links below.  Read the grant guidelines here.

Based on current principal and continuing commitments, the BWA anticipates awarding grants of up to $500 for the 2013-2014 cycle.
